i still buy a few cds, but mostly just of a few of my favorite artists because 1.) i want the real thing, and just having the songs on my computer doesn't feel real, and 2.) to support them (although i guess buying online would do the same thing). but as the format of music has changed, i usually just go along with it without too much complaints. i listened to 95% of my music on the computer or ipod now, as it's just easier. so i don't mind too much, but it would be kinda sad to see a hard copy version of music to dissappear. but maybe that's the future... and also, it's probably better for the enviornment!

yeah, i agree with the comments... also, we've known for a while how bad smoking is, and second-hand smoke can be just as bad, so why do those who choose to not smoke have to suffer with those who do? if those people want to be dumb and still kill their bodies with that stuff, then they should do so outside, no matter what the weather. that may be a bit harsh, but i think they're doing the right thing. even outside people can be exposed to it... but maybe if there are seperate sections inside or out, that would help... and maybe stuff like this will help more people to quit, because it's too hard to find a good place to smoke.

I don't know whether it's the same in European countries, but for U.S. states/cities that I know of, smoking bans are definitely a good thing. Smoking bans haven't really hurt businesses economically - there have been positive effects to businesses. Off the top of my head, I think businesses are getting new customers (there are more nonsmokers than smokers in the U.S.). People are more satisfied with the air. Businesses also benefit from healthier employees who use up fewer sick days. Healthier and more satisfied employees lead to lower turnover rates. Also, if people are overall healthier because they smoke less, they are consumers for a longer period of time...

I guess I'm biased because I work in public health/health policy -- so I don't think people should be smoking in public anyway. Or smoking at all for that matter! I agree that smoking is often a social event, but it doesn't mean that social norms can't change over time so that smoking no longer becomes an acceptable social event.

As someone from Boulder, CO where no one smokes, I can say it is a very social place and no one misses it. It is just as easy to go outside to smoke or away from people (which is even better). This summer I am spending time at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. For a place that stresses health, there is a good bit of smoking outside the buildings. The problem is, walking through a cloud of smoke, whether outside or inside is still being exposed and entirely unpleasant. I think its great that a majority of places are banning it. It is correcting a public health problem (or two) and making it more pleasant to sit and eat or drink.
